Jewish tradition dictates a great deal of wedding planning,
and Wedding Concierge Services is happy to introduce you to
some of the customs and practices that you might consider, depending
on your religious and personal preferences. The standard bachelor
party, for example, is less common among devoutly Jewish men.
More often, the groom will meet with
his male siblings and friends for dinner, drinks and celebration.
Since the moment that a couple enters the huppah is distinctive
and special, most Rabbis discourage wedding rehearsals. Many
couples, however, still hold rehearsal
dinners prior to the wedding. Sometimes the event even includes
a Friday night Shabbat ceremony. In certain cases, this may
be the first time that the families of the bride and groom meet.
A congregation will bless a soon-to-be-wed couple by giving
them the first aliyah, which is the first blessing before and
after the Torah reading. Aliyah takes place one week before
the wedding. In very traditional circles, only the groom is
given aliyah, and celebrants toss wrapped candies in celebration.
Furthermore, some couples host a Kiddush with a meal after the
wedding ceremony. Others might host an Oneg Shabbat after Friday
night services, which also involves food and socializing. With
Wedding Concierge Services, you can be assured that your Jewish
wedding plans will be conducted respectfully, efficiently and
with great style.
